Les principaux programmes internationaux de suivi d'animaux utilisent Argos pour transmettre des données par satellite.

Le programme ARGOS a plusieurs applications. Historique et mondialement connu, ce service satellitaire permet de suivre de nombreuses espèces d’animaux à l’aide de balises. Les données sont récupérées grâce à la constellation de satellites ARGOS. Les animaux suivis peuvent être des oiseaux, des animaux marins (comme des tortues par exemple), des poissons ou encore des animaux terrestres (comme des ours par exemple).
