Telonics
← Back
Telonics began a private partnership in the 1960s and incorporated in 1978.
Their goal has been to design and manufacture sophisticated and reliable tools for wildlife tracking.
Telonics developed the first Argos units for caribou in the early 1980s followed by satellite units for polar bears shortly thereafter. Over the next few years, Telonics Argos transmitters were deployed on dozens of species of terrestrial and marine mammals.
As systems were miniaturized, units were deployed on birds. In addition, units were developed for oceanography, meteorology, and balloon and rocket recovery.
