ANGELS satellite operational from 13th October 2020

Oct 13, 2020

As you all know, on December, 18th 2019, the successful launch of the first ANGELS nanosatellite, developed by CNES, HEMERIA and Thales Alenia Space, ANGELS marked the beginning of the metamorphosis of the Argos system. We received the first signal of Angels at the beginning of 2020.

Today, we’re pleased to announce that the nanosat ANGELS (Argos Neo on a Generic Economical and Light Satellite), the first prototype of Kinéis nanosatellites, is operational and data will begin streaming to end users on the 13th October 2020.

The Argos Data Collection System has been serving you since 1978. Its metamorphosis is under way with the Kinéis constellation. The Kinéis constellation will carry 25 new operational Argos space instruments in 2023.

This new generation of satellite offers new capabilities such as collecting data from very low power transmitters (100mW). ANGELS will be coded “A1” in the CLS distribution service (ArgosWeb, Webservices, SSH Argosserver).

Here is a reminder of the full list of operational satellites and their abbreviations: METOP-A: MA; METOP-B: MB; METOP-C: MC; NOAA-15: NK; NOAA-18: NN; NOAA-19: NP; SARAL: SR; ANGELS: A1.
