Platforms

Drifting Buoys

There are three types of drifting buoys:

• meteorological drifters,
• oceanographic drifters
• combined oceanographic and meteorological buoys.

Ice Buoys

They can measure a variety of oceanographic and meteorological data which are relayed through the ARGOS satellite system.

Sub-Surface Floats

There are four types of subsurface floats:

• RAFOS type floats,
• PROFILING floats such as those used in the Argo program.

Moored Buoys

There are three types of moored buoys:

• Deep Ocean Buoys,
• Coastal Meteorological Buoys,
• Wave buoys.
